Kolkata: In a bizarre case, woman athlete Pinki Pramanik, who won a gold medal at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, has been detained by the West Bengal police for torturing and attempting to rape a woman.

The victim has claimed that Pinki Pramanik is actually a male. The police have sought a permission for a medical test from the court on Pinki to ascertain her sex.

Police say they will arrest Pinki if the test finds the woman's allegation to be true.
